Pixie Dust
Diversity just happens; it’s a state of being. It happens all the time when people, who are different in many ways, show up at a place or in cyberspace and interact. Diversity is neutral. It is not of itself a strength. No magic pixie dust makes it good or bad Given our leaning towards self-interests, (not to mention different values) there is usually tough work that has to be done to make the interaction valuable for the majority. A diverse group happens every time any number of people come together because people are all different.
Irreconcilable differences, where we have separate space, is sometimes the best way to live to the fullest and live out our diversity to its natural consequences. Boundaries of communities, states, and nations allow us to live out our values in peace. Diversity can mean everybody loses. Only when there are agreed upon values and goals for a particular event in space and time, can diversity be a strength.
